April 2019 Upcoming Reads

Hello there! I’m happy to say that I’m finally at a place in life where I can focus on reading and writing. For April, I’m catching up on all the books I intended to read, and adding loads of valuable content. I am going to chronicle my journey through each book with topics such as writing style, genre interests, and various elements of each book, all without spoilers.

Because the last thing you want is spoilers!

My first read for April is…

A Discovery of Witches

by Deborah Harkness

♣ ♣ ♣ ♣

Oh my, the setting!!! I am 72 pages into the book, and it’s quite suspenseful, as any historical-fantasy novel should be. I bought the book because of the witchy element; I consider myself a pagan, so the book suits me!

I want to be there.

So far I like how the book unfolds. I can feel the intensity of the relationships. What I love about Harkness’ writing is the tremendous amount of detail she puts in the settings. I don’t mean just the physicality of the settings, but also the energetics.

And the second runner up book is…

Six of Crows

by Leigh Bardugo

♣ ♣ ♣ ♣

I’ve been wanting to read this book for the longest time! Since I’ve finally gotten major personal business taken care of, I can simply focus on reading, so this one is on my TBR list. This thriller novel involves six daring characters with a penchant for criminality. Blending their virtues and vices, they attempt a harrowing heist.

I’m developing a huge interest in crime fiction, so I have a feeling this is one book that will be unputdownable!

Aaaaaand the third and final book for April is…

The Keeper’s Vow

By Francina Simone

I’m fangirling Francina Simone! She knows her stuff when it comes to writing, so I will kindly link her website here:

Francina Simone’s Awesome Stuff

Reading the synopsis of this book reminded me a little of what it was like for me to discover that people in my family are not who I thought they were. So this book might be pretty relatable.

So there you have it!  I hope these books spark interest in you if you haven’t read them, and if you have read any of them, then I hope my mention of them makes you squee!

TTYL!
